The time arrived to reinstall my os using the recovery boot option completly wiping the drive and reinstalling from the recovery partion everything went well but at the end of the "installing the software' stage when it rebooted the installing software stage started again for about 10 minutes then rebooted again then repeated these steps over and over again i lef it at this stage for over 24 hours but was getting the same result, i have tried using the recovery disks that i created when i first used the laptop but with exactly the same results. I have done this procedure once before with no problems at all. I now have a computer with no os and seemingly no way to reinstall.

Hi @aussieguy1,

Thank you for your query.

I understand that you did a full recovery and all went well, until the end of "installing software stage "  when it restarts. Upon restart it repeats the installing software and restarts, only to continually repeat the process.

First, I would try a hard or forced reset.  Please remove all peripheral devices such as USBs, printers, monitors or SD cards. Here is a link as a guide.   HP Notebook PCs - Performing a Hard Reset or Forced Reset.  If the issue remains, try booting into safe mode to troubleshoot.  HP Notebook PCs - Entering Safe Mode. Another link that may help is Using System Configuration (msconfig).  if the difficulty remains, I suggest you test for a hardware issue.  HP Notebook PCs - Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 7, Vista).

Please let me know the outcome.

I tried all your suggestions with no results but tried a recovery again and it managed to complete this time. Thanks for your ideas.
