HP Virtual Assistant tells me that the two pre-installed programs I want to uninstall can't be uninstalled because there are no instructions to do so.

They are: McAfee and PC Help Sof.

I'd appreciate any information to help me out.

To quickly remove pre-installed McAfee from your new PC, first uninstall the app via Windows Settings > Apps > Installed apps. Then, download and run the official McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool to clear out stubborn residual files and system drivers

Remove PC help the same way BUT it will leave stuff in your register with no way to removed them.

Instead, download the free revo uninstaller.

here are several uninstaller applications. I use REVO Pro but the free version is excellent. Revo will attempt to run the original uninstall but if that fails it will continue on to uninstall whatever it can find that is associated with the problem app. It will show items in the registry that it wants to delete. Registry backup and restore points created before any uninstall.

At the conclusion of the uninstall, a checkbox of items to be cleaned from the registry will be presented. Normally all are selected and deleted. ie: you need to select and click the delete.
