Intel Chipset Installation Utility and Driver {Skylake / Kaby Lake / Braswell / Apollo Lake / Gemini...update is not installing (installation file is 'SP93134.exe').

 

I manage to get to the following screen:

After pressing 'Install', I receive the error message 'Unknown error.' The error dialog is the following one:

I've added the contents of what I believe is the log file for the last failed installation of this update, to the bottom of this message.

 

Today, I managed to successfully install 6 other HP updates downloaded from the HP website but this one isn't working.

 

Anyone know what's going wrong? Anyone experienced this issue?

No, it's not working for me--it fails in virtually the same way. I actually have another laptop issue regarding Windows Update --Windows Update isn't working. I've been spending the last hours trying to get Windows Update working again. Windows Update opens fine, but the latest general Windows update provided by the Windows Update software (but not primarily for the Windows Update software), keeps on failing.

 

Do you think the Windows Update issue and this other HP update issue could be related?

P. S. I also have slow-performance issues that may be entirely to do with Cortana, Microsoft Windows Search Indexer & Explorer. Have been trying many optimisations for speed reasons (including these HP updates) but still speed at times isn't good enough.

Hello Paul,

 

Thanks for the tip but I very much doubt I will want to do this as I've spent ages customising the laptop. Also, I'm not sure whether doing a factory reset would help as these speed issues existed right at the beginning from the time when I bought this laptop brand new. I finally became fed-up enough with the speed problems to start spending most of my time focussing on speed improvement rather than other configurations I wanted to do with the laptop. There appear to be some useful guides on the internet for fixing Windows performance issues. I think I will be able to fix these various issues eventually without using a factory reset.

 

Not being able to install this HP software isn't too much of problem. I think I un-installed it some days ago to try to improve performance. Actually, now I come to think about it, do you think perhaps I need to install an earlier version of the software before applying the HP update (perhaps the reason why the update is not working is because the update is expecting an earlier version of the software to already be installed)?

I don't believe that would be the problem.

 

You usually don't have to incrementally install updates unless the file specifically states you can only update from such and such a version.

 

I always remove the HP image and clean install the operating system, which normally provides the best performance.

Problem solved!

 

The error message seems to relate to the software already having been installed--they could have been more descriptive!

 

The update that Paul pointed out earlier in this thread appears to be a newer version--it actually looks like it did work (the first time I ran the installation). Be warned that the update doesn't appear to display any kind of message saying that the installation was successful when it is successful. It also doesn't show that new program shortcuts and / or folders have been created, when successful. You could possibly gain stability & performance improvements by installing Paul's update rather than the corresponding update listed for this laptop on HP's website.
