HP Laptop 14Sdq1xxx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a new HP Laptop 14Sdq.

My external Samsung SE-208GB Portable DVD Writer (produced 2015) is not connecting to the laptop.

Does anyone have any idea of a suitable driver so that the portable DVD Writer will connect to the Laptop.

Thanks for any suggestions.

@Transap If a window does not open when you insert a disc into the drive and the drive does not display in File Explorer, then Windows does not recognize the drive.

If you upgraded your computer to Windows 10 or to Windows 8 and the drive was working before, but is no longer working correctly, you can save time by skipping to Clear the upper and lower registry filters to remove the upper and lower control filters from the registry.

NOTE:

If you have a new notebook computer, make sure the computer actually has a CD/DVD drive. Several models of notebook computers do not come with CD/DVD drives, and must use an external USB drive or other solution.

Step 1: See if the drive displays in BIOS

Step 2: Check the drive name in Device Manager

Step 3: Use the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter

Step 4: Reset the computer power

Step 5: Check drive cable connections (desktop tower computers only)

Step 6: Clear the upper and lower registry filters

Step 7: Test for CD/DVD drive failure

Hi Riddle_Decipher,

Thanks for the advice and the welcome to the community.

The drive is working after checking the BIOS and uninstalling the USB DVD Drive in Device Manager and reinstalling with a restart.

Best wishes
