how do I get the screen to hibernate when I close it. The screen and keyboard stay lit when I close my laptop. I want them to go off.

It's the same for all laptops -- go into Control Panel, then Power Options.
On the left, you should see a link for what to do when you close the lid. Click that.
Then, change the settings to hibernate, sleep, or shut down the laptop.
