Hi @skjainmeerut,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the search box on your HP Laptop PC 15’s taskbar isn’t working, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.

Restart Your Computer: Sometimes a simple restart can fix temporary issues.

Check for Windows Updates: Ensure your system is up to date as updates often fix bugs.

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and click Check for updates.

Restart Windows Explorer:

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  • Find and select Windows Explorer, then click Restart.

Rebuild the Search Index:

  • Go to Control Panel > Indexing Options.
  • Click Advanced and then click Rebuild under Troubleshooting.

Check Windows Search Service:

  • Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Find Windows Search in the list, right-click it, and select Restart.

Run the Search and Indexing Troubleshooter:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
  • Click Additional troubleshooters and then select Search and Indexing.

Run System File Checker:

  • Open Command Prompt as an administrator (search for "cmd" in the Start menu, right-click Command Prompt, and choose Run as administrator).
  • Type sfc /scannow and press Enter. Wait for the scan to complete and fix any issues found.

Check for Corrupted User Profile:

  • Create a new user profile to see if the issue persists. If the search works in the new profile, your original profile might be corrupted.

Reset Windows Search:

  • Open PowerShell as an administrator (search for "PowerShell" in the Start menu, right-click Windows PowerShell, and choose Run as administrator).
  • Type the following command and press Enter:

Get-AppxPackage -Name Microsoft.Windows.Search | Reset-AppxPackage

Perform a System Restore (if the issue started recently):

  • Go to Control Panel > System and Security > System > System Protection > System Restore and follow the prompts to restore your system to a point before the issue began.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
