Greetings,
I have replaced my laptop HDD to SSD and had installed windows 10 64bit. I had updated the OS, drivers and had installed all required software. while working on the laptop it freezes where had to replace the SSD three times with new ones and it were on the same issue. Moreover, I had run the smart test and two issued I found:
- Hard drive/SSD (smart & optimized) tests passed, except (short & long) DST check not available.
- Battery Required calibration.
Anybody came across these issues, please help
Regards

Hi @aw2004nx,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
I understand how discouraging it can be to deal with repeated freezing issues, especially after replacing your SSD multiple times and doing everything to keep your laptop up to date. Let’s try to identify and resolve the root cause of the problem.
- Are you using a specific SSD brand and model, and is it listed as compatible with the HP Spectre x360 13-aw2000?
- Does the freezing happen under specific conditions, like running certain applications or during startup?
- Have you updated your laptop's BIOS and chipset drivers to the latest versions available from HP's support site?
Let's try these steps
Update BIOS and Firmware:
- Visit the HP Support website and search for your model.
- Download and install the latest BIOS and storage controller firmware updates. These updates often address hardware compatibility issues.
Check for SSD Compatibility and Drivers:
- Ensure the SSD you’re using is compatible with the HP Spectre x360. Some laptops work best with certain SSDs certified by the manufacturer.
- Install the latest NVMe drivers for your SSD. If your SSD manufacturer provides a management tool (like Samsung Magician for Samsung SSDs), use it to update the SSD firmware.
Test RAM and Other Components:
- Run HP's Diagnostics Tool to test the RAM and other hardware.
- Faulty RAM can cause system freezing even if the SSD passes tests. Access the diagnostics tool by restarting the laptop and pressing F2 during boot.
Check Power and Cooling:
- The battery requiring calibration could indicate power inconsistencies that might affect performance. Perform the battery calibration as prompted in HP Diagnostics.
- Ensure the cooling system is functioning properly, as overheating can also lead to freezing. Clean any dust from vents and fans if necessary.
Use AHCI Mode in BIOS:
- Enter the BIOS (press Esc or F10 during startup).
- Ensure the SSD is configured in AHCI mode, not RAID. This setting improves performance and compatibility for most SSDs.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
