I have a shutdown issue with my HP ENVY 15-k061 Notebook, serial number [edited] running Windows 10 x64 KB1709.
It will not wakeup after sleep. I have to perform a hard close down, keeping the power button pressed for a long time.
According to the Forum, this problem is caused by a combination of Windows 10 and Intel® Management Engine Interface Driver (version 11.0.0.1155 in my case). The solution seems to be to download an older 8.1 driver version 10xxxx or 9xxxx, but no 10xxx or 9xxxx version is listed on hp.com for my pc. Therefore, I should download it from Intel and version 9.5.24.1790 1.5M should work in most cases.
Will it work in my case? And what happens if it doesn’t work?
According to the Forum many, many HP users suffer from this shutdown problem. What does HP do about it?
The only reason I got into this problem is that I followed my HP Assistants advice to upgrade my driver (and now it won’t go back to the previous driver). It only took one click!
I would very much like my HP Assistant to get me out of the problems with one click.

Hi:
My understanding is that you should update to the latest version you can, not an earlier one to get rid of that issue.
This package provides the Intel Management Engine Components Driver for supported notebook models running a supported operating system.
11.6.0.1045 Rev.A May 12, 2017

If you want to address your concerns regarding this issue to HP, you can contact the HP executive team at the link below.

If you want to revert to an older version, use the W8.1 driver on your notebook's support page.
The actual driver version in that file is below. It is not 1.00 RevA.
DriverVer=11/27/2013, 9.5.24.1790

Hi’
Thank you for your response. One should always use the latest driver, of course, but the problem was caused by updating the driver! Windows tells me that I am running the latest version. Even so, I can find the newer version you mention on HP’s home page.
The Forum recommends to install the 8.1 driver to cure the problem.
My only real concern is whether the Version 9.5.24.1790 1.5M that apparently cures the problem will fit my pc (I don’t understand the technical speciation on Intel’s homepage) and what happens if I install this driver and it doesn’t fit. Will my pc go black and be unable to start? Can you tell me that?

You're very welcome.
Unfortunately, I would have no idea what the consequences would be if you revert to the older driver.
I don't see why it could cause any major issues, but I can't offer any guarantees that it won't.
I offered that suggestion because other folks had the same issue as you did, and updating to the latest version of the IMEI driver worked for many of them, and for some it made no difference.
I got the driver from a business notebook where HP does a better job of keeping drivers updated.
There is no doubt it will install on your model. I just don't know for sure if it will fix the problem or not.

Hi’
I installed the new version of the driver that you recommended two days ago, I also reactivated fast-restart, and everything works as intended. No more shutdown or wakeup problems. Thank you very much……:o)!
Only remaining problem is that the Fall Creators Update deleted HP 3D DriveGuard because it is incompatible with this version of Windows.
Do you also know a cure for that problem?

You're very welcome.

Hi’
On second thought I just realized that I don’t need the 3D driveguard since my pc is running on a SSD-disk alone.
Sorry to have bothered you with this question.
I’m impressed with the power and speed of the HP Support Forum. Thanks again…..:o)!
