@kcav wrote:I downloaded Win 7 Pro 64-bit from Microsoft website, installed it to the same hard drive in the sme PC and I am using the OM product key - why doesn't it activate?
Hi @kcav
There are several possible reasons:
- you are not entering the correct client code - read and check again. Consider zero (0) and letter O (as Oscar), things like this
- you do enter correct code but Microsoft have blacklisted it for some reasons (happens rarely but has been seen in the past). I cannot comment if this is the case and if Microsoft did it - I don't have access to their systems and I don't know your code, just a speculation
- you might have downloaded and installed different version from what your code works for (for example your COA sticker is for Windows 7 Home edition but your downloaded Pro - this will not activate. Also, it is probably OEM type, you might have downloaded different version from the heidoc tool which is not for OEM but for Full Product Package (FPP) versions (or vice versa)
- since you bought a used computer, your computer might have undergone serious hardware changes. Your COA sticker for Windows licenses the standard PC configuration but if lots of major components have been changed, the code might not work.
Also, note that Microsoft no longer supports Windows 7 - it's standard support release expired and it is not within extended support period. Microsoft no longer offers OEM downloads for Windows, it offers only for FPP versions. The heidoc tool is unofficial procedure. But I do believe it is probably caused because of one of the possible reasons I posted above. Check and consider them

Lol, wait please.
Windows and Office are completely different product - Windows is an operating system
and Office is a software suite of office productivity programs.
They cost different prices, they are licensed separately. Initially you posted about problems activating Windows 7, but now you write about Office ProPlus 2010 - these are different and the code for Windows 7 will not work for Office.
I might be able to assist you but first clarify which product you have issues with activating ?

I purchased an HP 8440p it came with Windows 7 installed, afterward I installed Microsoft Office Pro PLus 2010. Both Windows 7 and Office 2010 worked fine and were activated. I backed up the system partition and have restored it to the 8440P internal hard disk. I know the license numbers used to activate both Windows 7 and Office 2010.
While running the 8440p numerous system errors occured . I decided to make a Clean Instal. After making the Clean Installation I wanted to validae Windows. after entering the first digit of the product ID I was told it was an invalid number. When I tried to install Office 2010 the same thing happened, when I enterthe first digit of the license number used in the old implementation i ws told invalid number.
What's going on?

Hi @kcav
With regards to Windows, please check my previous post(s) to you and check the things I mentioned. Please, check and comment on them.
With regards to Office - Office ProPlus is a special Office edition designed for big companies. The license might also be used by home users (employees) of this big company. Office is a Microsoft product and any questions to unsuccessful Office activation you can refer directly to Microsoft and Microsoft HelpDesk >> https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/answerdesk/chat/default.aspx?productkey=awasahome
Let me know how it goes

Hi IT_WinSec,
In response to the items you mentioned:
- I am certain I entered the correct client code
- I restored the original implementationn from backup image file and the version of Windows was the same as used in new installation Win7 Pro 64-bit - more than 200 up dates were made to the new install
- Microsoft may have blacklisted it for some reasons (happens rarely but has been seen in the past). - In addition to buying an HP 8440p for my son I also bought a cell phone for him. I am trying to configure them. Therefore I created a a user name to go with his new telephone number. Yesterday I connected the phone to the Internet using Mobile Hotspot and the notebook to the phone wirelessly, then I got a message asking me if I were in East Hampton. I was not; soon after I got another message asking me if I was in NJ. I shut the phone down. I hope to go to T-Mobbile today and discuss security issues when using Mobile Hotspot.

Hi,
This is not related to T-Mobile. I recommend you save your time and do not visit them as this issue is not related to the Mobile Hotspot or the suggested locations EH, NJ, etc....
I recommend you contact Microsoft about your activation issues and discuss the matter with them - either via phone or via chat.

Windows Activated
used 25 character Product Key on the sticker attached to the bottom of PS; turned on the spot light on my cell phone, took out a magnifying glass, typed 25 digit code into the Product ID field and clicked Activate. Windows 7 Pro 64-bit Activated and Genuine appeared on the screen. also the Product Key changed from the number I typed in to the kay provided by the OEM.
