Hi @symphonyh

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for sharing that—keyboard issues like this can be super annoying, especially when they affect such commonly used keys.

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Software and Driver Updates:

  • Ensure your system drivers, particularly the keyboard and chipset drivers, are up-to-date. Use Windows Update or visit the HP Support website to download and install the latest drivers.

Keyboard Troubleshooter:

  • Use Windows built-in troubleshooter for the keyboard.
    1. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
    2. Select Keyboard and run the troubleshooter to detect and fix issues.

Check for System Updates:

  • Make sure your operating system is up-to-date. Microsoft frequently releases updates that may resolve compatibility issues.

Hardware Diagnostic Test:

  • Run a keyboard diagnostic test using HP PC Hardware Diagnostics to check for hardware failures. This can often identify whether the problem is hardware-related.

Clean the Keyboard:

  • Ensure there is no debris or dust under the keys that might be obstructing functionality. Use compressed air or a keyboard cleaning kit to gently clean the keyboard.

External Keyboard:

  • Connect an external USB keyboard to check if it works correctly. This will help determine if the issue is with the physical keyboard of the laptop or a software-related problem.

Check Keyboard Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Time & Language > Language > Keyboard.
  • Make sure the correct input language and keyboard layout are selected.

Safe Mode:

  • Boot your laptop into Safe Mode to see if the issue persists. If the keyboard functions properly in Safe Mode, it may indicate a software conflict that's causing the problem.

Restore System to Previous State:

  • If the issue started recently, consider using System Restore to revert your system to a previous state where the keyboard was working correctly.

Reinstall Keyboard Driver:

  • Uninstall and reinstall your keyboard driver:
    1. Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
    2. Find the keyboard driver, right-click, and select Uninstall.
    3. Restart the laptop and Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.
