Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

All set up for Windows 7 on my new Spectre, but I can't find the NVMe driver for Toshiba XG5 1TB SSD that's inside this laptop. I was able to get the whole process working on the same computer with a Samsung SSD, so I know it can be done. Anyone know where I can find it?

I tried to add the NVMe hotfix from Microsoft to the install.wim, and I tried the drivers https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Need-Windows-7-Toshiba-NVME-dr... and https://www.win-raid.com/t29f25-Recommended-AHCI-RAID-and-NVMe-Drivers.html. No luck.

Hi! @jakehero, Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!

I understand you need drivers for Toshiba NVME SSD on your laptop.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any software or hardware changes on your PC?

As you mentioned the SSD is not getting detected on your PC and you need drivers for Toshiba NVME SSD on your laptop.

I have checked the records and found only a few models of HP Pavilion laptops support NVMe.

Since the part you have replaced has tested from HP. I would recommend you to use HP genuine parts on your PC.

Please find the list of supported SSD and part number for SSD hard drive on your laptop.

2-TB, M.2 2280/DS, SATA-3, PCIe, NVMe, solid-state drive with TLC L04986-001
1-TB, M.2 2280/DS, SATA-3, PCIe, NVMe, solid-state drive with TLC 941878-001
512-GB, M.2 2280/DS, SATA-3, PCIe, NVMe, solid-state drive with TLC 941881-001
360-GB, M.2 2280/DS, SATA-3, PCIe, NVMe, solid-state drive with TLC 941880-001
256-GB, M.2 2280/DS, SATA-3, PCIe, NVMe, solid-state drive with TLC 941879-001
128-GB, M.2 2280/DS, SATA-3, PCIe, NVMe, solid-state drive with TLC 941877-001

Refer the maintenance and service guide of your laptop to know more information.

Note: Refer page 20 for more information.

You can purchase the part from HP parts store using this link.

Also, you can try restoring the BIOS to default on your PC and check if it helps.

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer.
