Product: HP Laptop - 15-gw0010wm

I recently encountered a problem with my storage yesterday. After something failed to download, I randomly lost 10 GB of my storage space when I had 30GB left. I was trying to download it to an external drive, but somehow it filled my main storage. I scanned my laptop already but am unsure if there are any viruses it picked up or something else. if someone can help me fix this that would be nice
