My laptop is stuck in tablet mode despite being in laptop form, I don't know what happened and I have been trying to fix it , when I tilt it backwards its moves to laptop mode but the keyboard is messed up, some of the keys don't work or turn on airplane mode and I can't turn it off unless I go to settings to turn it off

@Newaccount, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're dealing with a few frustrating issues on your HP laptop. Let's tackle them one by one.

Stuck in Tablet Mode

Here are some steps to try to get your laptop out of tablet mode:

Toggle Tablet Mode Off:

  • Go to Settings > System > Tablet.
  • Ensure that the toggle for "Tablet mode" is set to Off.

Update Drivers:

  • Sometimes, outdated drivers can cause such issues. Update your drivers, especially the Intel Integrated Sensor Solution Driver.

Registry Edit:

  • Press Windows + R, type regedit, and press Enter.
  • Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AutoRotation.
  • Ensure the value of Enable is set to 1.

Keyboard Issues

If some keys are not working or are triggering airplane mode, try these steps:

Check for Physical Issues:

  • Ensure there's no debris under the keys. Use compressed air to clean around the affected keys.

Reinstall Keyboard Driver:

  • Go to Device Manager > Keyboards.
  • Right-click on your keyboard and select Uninstall device. Restart your laptop to reinstall the driver.

Update Keyboard Driver:

  • Visit the HP support website and download the latest keyboard driver for your model.

Airplane Mode Stuck On

To fix the issue with airplane mode, try these steps:

Use Function Keys:

  • Press Fn + the key with the airplane icon to toggle airplane mode.

Update Network Drivers:

  • Go to Device Manager > Network adapters.
  • Right-click on your Wi-Fi adapter and select Update driver.

Reset Network Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Status.
  • Click on Network reset

I hope this helps.

Sorry for the late reply.

I use windows 11 so I have a tablet toggle

My drivers are updated except for Intel sensor witch won't update, Airplane mode isn't stuck, it just a enables with the keys and except for the down arrow key not functioning, every other key is fine just malfunctioning.

For the registry edit, it was already set to those numbers but still not changing out of tablet mode also when it came to downloading drivers for my laptop there wasn't any just related videos.

@Newaccount, Thanks for the update, and no worries about the delay!

Based on what you’ve described, it seems like the system is still detecting your laptop as a tablet due to a faulty or non-functional sensor driver. Let's go through a few more advanced steps to resolve this:

Thanks for the detailed information! Based on what you've described, it seems like the system is still detecting your laptop as a tablet due to a faulty or non-functional sensor driver. Let's go through some advanced steps to resolve this:

Fix Intel Integrated Sensor Driver Installation

Since the Intel Sensor driver won't update normally:

  1. Go to Device Manager → expand Sensors.
  2. Right-click Intel Integrated Sensor Solution and select Uninstall device.
    • Check "Delete the driver software for this device" if the option appears.
  3. Restart the PC.
  4. Manually install the driver:
    • Visit your laptop's HP support page.
    • Search for Intel Sensor Driver or Intel Integrated Sensor Solution Driver.
    • Run the installer and restart the PC again.

Force Switch Out of Tablet Mode

Even if the toggle doesn't work, try forcing it via a registry edit and sensor service reset:

  1. Open services.msc
  2. Locate Sensor Service → Right-click → Restart
  3. Open Registry Editor (carefully):
    • Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AutoRotation
    • Set the following values:
      • Enable = 1
      • LastOrientation = 0
      • SensorPresent = 1
      • SlateEnable = 0
  4. Restart your laptop and check if it boots into desktop mode.

Fix Malfunctioning Keyboard

To address potential keyboard-related tablet mode issues:

  1. BIOS Settings:
    • Enter BIOS (press Esc or F10 on boot)
    • Look for "Action Keys Mode" or "Function Key Behavior"
    • Set to Disabled
    • Save and exit BIOS
  2. Driver Reinstallation:
    • Open Device Manager
    • Uninstall devices under:
      • Keyboards
      • Human Interface Devices (HID Keyboard Devices and HID-compliant sensors)
    • Restart to auto-reinstall
    • If not automatically installed, visit HP support site for manual drivers

Bonus Tip: Lock Rotation

Sometimes locking rotation can help force exit tablet mode:

  1. Go to Settings > Display
  2. Scroll to Display orientation
  3. Turn off Rotation lock
  4. Set orientation to Landscape

I hope this helps!
