Pavilion g7
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (32-bit)
I have a hp pavilion g7 and I updated from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 a few days ago. Today when I turned it on it worked fine and then all of the sudden it said that Windows 8.1 failed. Then it went dark. Now it's stuck on hp black screen. I've already turned it off and on a few times to see if it would boot back up. Now at the bottom it says diagnosing your pc. It's been like this for hours. What do I do?

the hard drive will need to be replaced. If you are still in warranty HP will replace it. If not a retail 2.5" laptop SATA hard drive can be used-Western Digital,Seagate,Toshiba, etc
Just be sure to get one of at least equal capacity as the original in order to use HP Recovery Media to install Windows. It can be larger, but not smaller capacity. For instance if you have a 500GB hdd you could use a 750GB hdd but not a 320GB hdd.

Hold the power button until it shuts down. After waiting a minute or so power on. Immediately after pressing power button start tapping the Esc key. This will open a menu where F2 System Diagnostics is an option. Tap F2 key and run the tests.
