HP Spectre x360 16 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 16-f2000 (74R51AV)

Hi, I just bought a new Spectre x360 16inch and the scrolling is quite sluggish when using 2 fingers on the touchpad.

Basically there is way too much friction slowing down the scrolling after I let go.

I do not have a Synaptics tab in the Mouse settings dialog.

The touchpad is quite large (more than 3 inches high) and I can sort of get the behaviour I want if I use the entire height of the touchpad when 2 finger scrolling - but I expect I will get some kind of repetitive injury if I do that.

Is there a way to control how long/how far the window scrolls after you let go (or how quickly is slows down)?

Otherwise is there a way to reduce the area being used on the touchpad (so that only the middle 2x2inches are sensitive)?

Hi @IKW6,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I see that you are facing an issue with your Laptop.

-Perform a power drain on your Laptop.

1) Unplug the power cord from the PC & wall.

2) Disconnect the power cable from the AC adapter if it is a detachable part and keep it aside.

3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the AC adapter, then connect it to the wall and to the charging port on your PC.

5) Power on the PC and check if it boots into Windows now.

-Install all the pending updates for the Windows operating system following the below steps.

go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and select Check for updates. If the upgrade is available for your device and you want to proceed, download and install it.

-Update the BIOS for your PC by clicking on the link.

Make sure you keep only the charger plugged in while updating the BIOS for your PC.

Click on the + sign next to BIOS and then download the file.

Open the file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.

This has not fixed the issue.

It may be that the touchpad is functioning correctly but that some of the settings are not exposed in the UI?

I came across "ScrollInertiaDecayRateIndex" in the registry which sounds like it could be a potential solution.

Essentially I just want the window to scroll for longer after I let go of the touchpad.

But I do not want to make any changes to the registry without having a clear idea of the impact (and these settings do not appear to be easy to find on the internet)

Many thanks

Hi @IKW6,

I am sorry to hear that the above steps did not help much.

Request you to follow the steps on this link on how to use the touchpad or change setting on your Laptop.

My question was about Synaptics settings that have been deliberately excluded from the User Interface by HP.

What I need to know is which regedit setting controls the friction applied to scrolling after the user lets go of the touchpad when scrolling with 2 fingers. I already know how to use the very limited settings that HP has exposed in the User interface.

Thank you.
