When I received the notebook there was an applet in my control panel (and within the mouse applet) to change features of how the touchpad reacts to finger gestures and taps. With subsequent driver updates from HP and/or Windows this was uninstalled. I would like to have the latest driver (of course) but with the facility of customizing the finger gestures, taps and speed of reaction of my touchpad that was in the associated program that was initially installed with the original driver.
I am insisting on this as my customizations will make the touchpad behave similar to the touchpad that I got so used to while using my earlier laptop
I am no novice to software and hardware.... I uninstalled and deleted the existing latest driver. I then downloaded the latest SoftPaq from HP download page for my laptop model. I installed the earliest driver (which contained the associated program and older driver). All worked. Then I downloaded and uncompressed the latest synaptic driver from both HP and tried updating only the driver pointing to the path of the uncompressed softpaq file. It did pick u the latest driver (which I checked on reboot) but the associated program that allowed me to customise taps and scrolls of the touchpad was gone!
I have tried various permutations and sequence of this operation described above (even with the latest windows Synaptics rom their driver base) driver but could not get the result I wanted
Is there a solution to this requirement of wanting to hold the original program with the latest driver? (I have successfully done something similar with my Realtek audio driver and B&O sound control applet)

Perhaps you are seeking the Synaptics driver.
There are several places to download the software - use your best judgement and pick a site you trust.
Two examples
Synaptics TouchPad Driver 19.2.17.59 for Windows 10
Synaptics TouchPad Driver 19.2.17.59 for Windows 10 Creators Update 64-bit

I am afraid I did not make myself clear
I have access to the latest version of synaptic smbus touchpad drivers for my laptop. hosting windows 10 version 19XX
but I want to install the hardware program.
Doing so gives me an older driver and installing the new driver over this causes the hardware program to get uninstalled!
