EVERY TIME MY TOUCUPAD STOP WORKING

IN DEVICE MANAGER IT SHOWS DRIVER ISSUE  AND SOME TIMES IT STARTS WORKING

Hello @8CG1358BB1, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

We understand how concerning it can be when the touchpad on your HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14-dy0050TU stops working intermittently, especially if Device Manager occasionally reports a driver issue and the touchpad starts working again without any changes. This behavior typically points to a driver, power management, or hardware communication issue rather than a permanent touchpad failure.

Intermittent touchpad failures are commonly caused by:

  • A corrupted or outdated touchpad driver.
  • Windows Update replacing the HP-recommended driver.
  • Power management settings temporarily disabling the touchpad to conserve energy.
  • Communication issues between the touchpad and the system's Embedded Controller (EC) or Intel Serial IO controller.

1. Perform an Embedded Controller (EC) Hard Reset

A hard reset clears residual electrical charge and reinitializes the hardware controllers that manage devices such as the touchpad.

  1. Shut down the notebook.
  2. Disconnect the AC adapter and all external devices.
  3. Press and hold the Power button for 20–25 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the AC adapter and power on the notebook.

Check whether the touchpad functions normally after Windows loads.

2. Reinstall the Touchpad Driver

If the driver has become corrupted, Windows can reinstall a fresh copy.

  1. Right-click Start and open Device Manager.
  2. Expand Human Interface Devices or Mice and other pointing devices.
  3. Locate the touchpad device (such as HID-compliant Touchpad, Synaptics, or ELAN).
  4. Right-click the device and select Uninstall device.
  5. Restart the notebook.

Windows should automatically detect the touchpad and reinstall the appropriate driver during startup.

3. Disable Power Management for the Touchpad

Windows power-saving features can occasionally power down the touchpad and prevent it from waking correctly.

  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. Right-click the touchpad device and select Properties.
  3. Open the Power Management tab (if available).
  4. Clear Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
  5. Click OK and restart the notebook.

This helps prevent Windows from disabling the touchpad during normal operation.

4. Install the Latest HP Drivers

If Windows installed a generic driver, replacing it with the HP-recommended version can improve stability.

  1. Visit the HP Software and Driver Downloads page. HP Pavilion x360 14 Convertible PC 14-dy0000 Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support
  2. Search for HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14-dy0050TU.
  3. Download and install the latest:
    • Touchpad/Mouse Driver (Synaptics, ELAN, or HID, depending on your model).
    • Intel Serial IO Driver, which manages communication between the operating system and integrated input devices.
  4. Restart the notebook after installation.

Installing the latest HP-certified drivers helps ensure compatibility with your notebook's hardware and Windows version.

If the issue is caused by a driver conflict, power management setting, or communication problem between Windows and the touchpad controller, these steps should restore reliable touchpad operation and prevent the intermittent driver errors.

If the issue continues, please let us know:

  • What error code appears in Device Manager (for example, Code 10, Code 43, or another message)?
  • Does the touchpad stop working only after Sleep, Restart, or Windows Update, or does it happen randomly during normal use?
  • Does the issue occur more frequently when the notebook is folded into tablet mode?

This information will help determine whether the issue is related to the touchpad driver, Intel Serial IO controller, power management, or the convertible mode sensor.

Have a great day!

I'm an HP Employee.
