My HP laptop (17-cn0076nr) cannot download any of the HP support assistant software packages. Nor can I enable the TPM 2.0 on the BIOS (says it is not present). All these technical support blogs do not provide any relevant information to my simple problem. Could someone please respond with real information on how to download the HP TPM Configuration Tool? All the blogs suggest downloading this, but it does not appear on any of the HP websites as to where to download this file. Since my computer's operating system (Windows 11 25h) is not compatible with HP's support assistant software (very strange, since my operating system is the latest available), I cannot get to the support page that actually has the correct drivers and software updates to my laptop (only 2 years old). Thanks!

Hi @Stefano_Nullo,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear your frustration loud and clear when you just want a straightforward solution and end up lost in a maze of blogs and outdated instructions. It can feel like hitting a brick wall. Let’s break this down step by step with clarity and empathy so you can move forward confidently.

Why TPM 2.0 Matters

TPM (Trusted Platform Module) is a hardware-based security feature required for Windows 11 and some advanced encryption/security tools. If your BIOS says TPM is “not present,” it usually means:

  • TPM is disabled in the BIOS, or
  • Your system uses Firmware TPM (fTPM), which needs to be enabled, or
  • The TPM firmware needs an upgrade from 1.2 to 2.0.

Step 1: Confirm TPM Status in Windows

  1. Press Win + R, type tpm.msc, and hit Enter.
  2. If you see “Compatible TPM cannot be found”, then BIOS settings or firmware need attention.

Step 2: Enable TPM in BIOS

  1. Restart your laptop and press F10 repeatedly during boot to enter BIOS.
  2. Navigate to Security → TPM State or Trusted Computing.
  3. Set TPM Device to Available and TPM State to Enabled.
  4. Press F10 to save and exit.

(If TPM options are missing, your system may need a firmware update.)

Step 3: Update TPM Firmware (Upgrade to 2.0)

HP provides a tool called HP TPM Configuration Utility (SoftPaq) for upgrading TPM firmware. This is not always easy to find, so here’s the official route:

Step 4: HP Support Assistant Issue

You’re right, HP Support Assistant sometimes struggles with newer Windows builds like Windows 11 25H2. Instead of relying on it.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Good afternoon, Vikram. I appreciate the prescripted response you sent me; however, the information I received was incomplete, incorrect, and did not serve to resolve my TPM firmware issue. This is the error message regarding the TPM 2.0 driver: This device cannot start. (Code 10). A protocol error was detected between the driver and the device."

I have updated my bios, turned everything on that mentions TPM, uninstalled then reinstalled the driver millions of times, and still, nothing. The HP website cannot detect what laptop I have. As for your remark to upgrade  the operating system. I did that. However, the HP website is not up to date with recognizing Windows 25h2 as an operating system version.  As far as the HP TPM configuration tool utility I requested (HP TPM Configuration Utility (SoftPaq)), the HP support search engine only provides an irrelevant link to printer firmware. When I put the query in the knowledge database, it mentions the tool and tells the customer to download it. However, there is no link to this miracle software that just may resolve my issue. HP TPM Configuration Utility (SoftPaq) is mentioned on this webpage: Support Search Results | HP®️ Support However, it provides no solutions to anything. Nor does it offer the link to the utility tool. IF YOU WOULD, PLEASE PUBLISH THE LINK TO THE TOOL SO THAT THE THOUSANDS OF HP CUSTOMERS WHO ARE HAVING TPM ISSUES CAN RESOLVE THEM WITHOUT HAVING TO WASTE TIME IN TECH CHAT ROOMS, SEARCHING THE INTERNET FOR USELESS SOLUTIONS, AND DEPENDING ON HP TO PRETEND TO OFFER SOLUTIONS THAT DON'T RESOLVE ANYTHING.

The serial number requested for my HP laptop is: 5CG3236H1X. I have tried everything possible to enable the TPM on this laptop, to no avail. In September, my laptop downloaded a Microsoft update (KB5063878), and the next day, when I tried to log into my laptop, it said there was no hard drive found. I looked up the symptoms online, and dozens of technical people reported that this security update caused the SSD failures on many people's laptops, and that Microsoft doesn't allow for this update to be removed.  So, I had to reinstall my Windows 11 operating system on a mechanical hard drive. When I tried to do that, the Windows 11 software then said I had no TPM 2.0 on my computer, even though the BIOS says it is enabled and available. I had to use another laptop, back up the recovery image, and install that on the new hard drive for the laptop in question. No matter what I try, the device manager says that the TPM has an error communicating with Windows 11 operating system. All the technical suggestions have proven worthless because my laptop says the TPM is available and enabled while the operating system says it is not installed, not present, or is not communicating with the operating system. I don't know if some Microsoft update also affected the TPM, but it does not work. PERIOD!
