Dear Team,

I am facing an intermittent issue with the Trackpad on my HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14 (Windows 10 Pro, version 22H2 – Build 19045).

Issue Summary:
The trackpad stops working after some time, though it functions correctly after a system restart.

In Device Manager, I see a yellow exclamation mark on the I2C driver.

There are two I2C controllers listed under Device Manager.

I attempted to manually install the following drivers, but received a compatibility error: "The driver is not supported on this OS version (10.0.19045)."

Drivers Tried:
Intel Serial I/O / I2C Chipset Driver

Touchpad Driver (Synaptics / ELAN)

Please advise on how to resolve this driver compatibility issue or share the correct, compatible drivers for my device and OS version.

If your trackpad stops working intermittently on your HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14 running Windows 10 Pro, version 22H2 – Build 19045, and you've noticed a yellow exclamation mark on the I2C driver in Device Manager, you can follow these steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Step 1: Update the I2C Driver

Manually Update the Driver:

Update via Device Manager:

  • Open Device Manager by pressing Windows + X and selecting Device Manager.
  • Locate I2C driver under Human Interface Devices or System Devices.
  • Right-click the I2C driver with the yellow exclamation mark and select Update driver.
  • Choose Search automatically for updated driver software. Follow the instructions to install the driver.

Step 2: Run Windows Updates

  1. Check for Windows Updates:
    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
    • Click Check for updates and install any available updates.
    • Make sure to restart your computer after the updates are installed.

Step 3: Uninstall and Reinstall the I2C Driver

  1. Uninstall the Driver:
    • In Device Manager, right-click the faulty I2C driver and select Uninstall device.
    • Make sure to check the box Delete the driver software for this device if prompted.
    • Restart your computer. Windows should attempt to reinstall the driver automatically.

Step 4: Use HP Support Assistant

  1. Download and Run HP Support Assistant:
    • Download and install HP Support Assistant.
    • Use it to find and install updates for your HP device, including the I2C driver.

Step 5: Refresh the Windows Device Manager

  1. Refresh the Driver Software:
    • In Device Manager, right-click the I2C driver and select Update Driver.
