No matter what application I use, the 'help tab' opens. For example Microsoft Help or Google support. And it prevents me from using the computer.

Hi @aslhnny

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing an issue where the Help tab or Help screen constantly opens on your HP computer, no matter which application you're using. This can be caused by various issues such as a stuck keyboard key, software conflicts, or malware. Let's go through a few troubleshooting steps to resolve this:

1. Check the Keyboard

The first thing to check is whether a key on your keyboard is stuck, which could cause the help menu or screen to open repeatedly.

  • Check for sticky keys: Press the Esc key, F1 (the common help key), or Windows key to see if the issue resolves after pressing them.
  • Try disconnecting the keyboard (if you're using an external one) and see if the issue persists.
  • If you have a laptop keyboard, gently press down on the F1 key or Windows key to see if it's physically stuck.
  • Try an external keyboard to see if the issue is related to the laptop keyboard.

2. Disable Sticky Keys and Other Accessibility Features

It's possible that Sticky Keys or other accessibility features are accidentally enabled, causing the help tab to open.

  • Press Shift key five times to see if Sticky Keys is activated. If it is, it will prompt a dialog box to turn it off.
  • To disable Sticky Keys and other accessibility settings:
    1. Press Windows + U to open Ease of Access settings.
    2. Go to Keyboard and ensure Sticky Keys, Toggle Keys, and Filter Keys are turned off.

3. Check for Software Conflicts

If you're running third-party software (like HP's own software or another application), it could be interfering with how your keyboard interacts with the system.

  • Disable or uninstall any recent software: If you recently installed any new programs or updates, try disabling or uninstalling them.
  • Start in Safe Mode:
    1. Restart your computer and press F8 (or Shift + F8) during boot to enter Safe Mode.
    2. In Safe Mode, check if the issue still occurs. If it doesn’t, it’s likely caused by a third-party software conflict.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
