HP Spectre X360 N5R98UA
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

When using my Spectre in tablet mode, I noticed that the touch keyboard will automatically pop up in some apps such as Internet Explorer but not in others such as Chrome. My search on the internet shows that some laptops have a setting under Settings- Devices-Typing to allow the keyboard to automatically pop up. My HP Spectre does not have this option. My question is should it have this option or is it not built into the HP Spectre X360?

I can touch the keyboard icon on the taskbar but this is not as convenient as an automatic pop up when you touch an entry field.

Thanks.

Hello @AnthonyJ911,

Thank you for the quick reply!

To my understanding, the feature should be native to the Windows 10 Operating System.  However, since you can not physically detach the keyboard from the notebook, you should not be able to have the feature work, using the option in the Settings.  The feature should work on Microsoft Edge, because that came with the Operating System.  Google Chrome and other apps that was not originally part of the Operating System may have compatibility issues.  For Google Chrome, try going to chrome://flags, and see if you have the option to adjust Enable Touch Events.  If so, try switching from Automatic to Enable.  Let me know how it goes.

I hope this helps.

Hello @AnthonyJ911,

From my understanding, the option to automatically show the touch keyboard, is part of the Windows 10 Operating System.  So it should be available for Windows 10 devices.  However, the option does indicate that it will automatically show the touch keyboard in windowed apps, when there is no keyboard attached to your device.  I hope this helps.

Hi,

I called Microsoft and they said it is an HP problem. Called HP support and they said the Spectre does not have that option. However, it does work in IE, Office but not Chrome or some other apps. I would like to get a clear answer on whether or not that option should be on my Spectre. Do other SPectre laptops havethat option avaiable?

thanks.

Hi,

the solution works with Chrome me, but the keyboard seems to only come up automatically when in tablet mode. This is fine when I flip the screen to use as a tablet, but it seems tablet mode has to be on all the time. The Spectre doesn't switch to tablet mode when I rotate the screen.

hi,

Well it seems to be working now. Not sure why it was not working yesterday.

Thanks.
