Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

i'm unable to make persistent changes to my notebook's touchpad settings.  (Synaptics V.7.5 on PS/2 Port).  i have the latest (April, 2016) version of the driver.

Description:
Using Control Panels > Mouse Properties > Device Settings > Settings, i am able to customize the touchpad's behaviour and apply the changes.  Stepping back to Device Settings and clicking the Profiles button, i'm able to save the custom profile.

These settings revert to default everytime i do one of the following:

  • Restart the computer.
  • Use a mouse, connected to an USB port.
  • Select the Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached.

Also, when i select a different scheme, from Control Panels > Mouse Properties > Pointers, that setting also doesn't endure.

Are you able to offer me advice on how to maintain my settings?

Hi,

Try the following.

Hold down the Windows key and press R

Into the Run box type regedit and hit enter

In the Registry Editor, navigate to the following

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTP\Install

Inside, look for a key named DeleteUserSettingsOnUpgrade

If this is present, right click the key and select Modify

Set the Value data field to 0 ( Zero ) and then click Ok.

Close the Registry Editor.

Restart the notebook.

When windows has reloaded, make the Synaptics setting changes you require in the usual way and save them, then check if they're now retained after a reboot etc.

Regards,

Thanks Provost,

That fixed the issue.
i'd also made the mistake of not updating the driver via Synaptics' website.  i'd attempted to do so via the HP Support Assistant and Windows' Device Manager.

Thanks again for your instructions.  Have a nice day.
