Subject: Touchpad not working on HP ProBook 4 G1i 14

Dear HP Support,

I have recently installed a new operating system on my computer, model HP ProBook 4 G1i 14 (24GB RAM / 512GB SSD).
Since the installation, the Touchpad is not working.

I have already performed the following steps without success:

  • Installed all available Windows updates.

  • Installed HP Support Assistant updates.

  • Checked in BIOS for pointing device options.

  • Tried downloading and installing drivers from the HP support website.

Unfortunately, the Touchpad still does not function, and it is not recognized under Device Manager.

Could you please advise on the correct driver or solution for this model under Windows 11?
If Windows 11 is not officially supported, please let me know which driver version I should use.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Hi @Benzi2012

Since, you've already performed a few steps to try and fix this issue, here are some additional steps that you may try:

  1. Enable Touchpad in Settings:
    • Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
    • Ensure that the touchpad is turned on.
    • Adjust the sensitivity and other touchpad settings.
  2. Check Device Manager:
    • Right-click on the Windows Start button and select Device Manager.
    • Expand the "Mice and other pointing devices" section.
    • Look for your touchpad device. If it shows an error or is not listed, you may need to uninstall and reinstall it:
      • Right-click the entry, select Uninstall device, and then restart your computer. Windows should automatically reinstall the touchpad driver.
  3. Install Synaptics or Precision Touchpad Driver:
    • Sometimes specific manufacturer drivers like Synaptics or Windows Precision Touchpad drivers are needed.
    • Check HP’s official site or Windows Update for specific Synaptics or Touchpad drivers for your HP ProBook model.
  4. Run Windows Troubleshooter:
    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
    • Scroll to Find and fix other problems, select Hardware and Devices, and run the troubleshooter.
  5. UEFI Diagnostic Tools (if applicable):
    • Restart your computer, and during boot, press the F2 or ESC key (depending on your BIOS version) to enter UEFI diagnostics.
    • Run a system test to see if there are any hardware issues with the touchpad.
  6. Restore to Previous Driver(please attempt at your own risk):
    • If the touchpad worked with a previous driver version, it may be beneficial to roll back the driver:
      • In Device Manager, right-click the touchpad device, select Properties, go to the Driver tab, and select Roll Back Driver.
