I'm unable to use my laptop's touchpad, after the recent windows update(24H2) the mouse has started lagging, and today it completely stopped working, I tried installing ELAN drivers(22H2) from offical HP site, but of no use, how do i fix this?

@Monica_2006, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
Experiencing touchpad issues, such as lagging or complete failure after a Windows update, can often be resolved by following these steps:
Verify Driver Compatibility: Ensure the ELAN drivers you downloaded from the HP site are compatible with your current version of Windows (24H2). Sometimes updates might require newer drivers.
Update Drivers via Windows Update:
- Connect to the internet.
- Go to Windows Update by clicking on the Start Menu > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Click on "Check for updates" and allow Windows to install any available updates, which might include driver updates for your touchpad.
Use Device Manager:
- Right-click on the Start Menu and select "Device Manager."
- Look for the "Mouse and other pointing devices" section.
- Right-click on the touchpad device (it might be listed as ELAN or Synaptics) and choose "Update Driver."
- Opt to "Search automatically for updated driver software."
HP Support Assistant:
- Open HP Support Assistant, which may offer additional updates not yet available through Windows Update.
- You can launch it from the Start Menu or download it from HP Support Assistant if not already installed.
- Use HP Support Assistant to check for any available driver updates for your laptop.
Uninstall and Reinstall the Driver:
- In Device Manager, right-click on the touchpad device and select "Uninstall device."
- Restart your laptop, allowing Windows to attempt to reinstall the default driver automatically.
Checking for Physical Connection Issues:
- Ensure that the touchpad has not been inadvertently disabled. Some laptops have a button or key combination to enable/disable the touchpad.
- Check if there is any physical damage or debris on the touchpad.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.
