Microsoft Windows 11

Hello I have a problem with my touchpad on my HP Laptop which has doesn't work and which has disappeared from my settings list. My mouse works fine but I am not able to find/download something to make my touchpad function. A colleague who is more knowledgeable than me has tried to uninstall/reinstall a problematic driver but it keeps reappearing.

My colleague suspects there is a problem with Windows 11 and HP, does anyone have any suggestions for how to fix this ?

Thank you

Hi @James1421,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Pavilion x360 14-dy0000 running Windows 11 is experiencing an issue where the touchpad disappears from settings and Device Manager, and reinstalling the driver doesn't help. On the newer Windows 11 builds like 24H2.

Here’s a step-by-step fix for the Issue:

1. Check for Hidden Devices in Device Manager

  1. Press Windows + X > Device Manager.
  2. Click View > Show hidden devices.
  3. Expand Human Interface Devices and Mice, and other pointing devices.
  4. Look for I2C HID DeviceSynaptics, or ELAN Touchpad.
    • If found with a yellow warning, right-click > Update driver > Search automatically.

2. Install HP Support Assistant

  1. Download from HP Support Assistant | HP® Support.
  2. Install and run it.
  3. Click your device > Updates tab > Check for updates and messages.
  4. Install any TouchpadHID, or Firmware updates.

3. Try Windows Optional Driver Updates

  1. Go to Settings > Windows Update > Advanced Options > Optional Updates.
  2. Look under Driver Updates for any touchpad-related drivers.
  3. Install and restart.

4. Restore BIOS Defaults

  1. Restart your laptop and press F10 to enter BIOS.
  2. Look for Load Setup Defaults or Restore Defaults.
  3. Save and exit.

5. Hard Reset

  1. Power off the laptop.
  2. Disconnect all external devices.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 15–20 seconds.
  4. Power on and check Device Manager again.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
