HP ENVY Notebook - 17t-n000 CTO
Microsoft Windows 11

I am trying to find a BIOS update for my HP ENVY Notebook 17t-n000 CTO.  HP website says there are no software or drivers available.

Is there a BIOS update available for this dinosaur notebook?

I am running Windows 11 Pro 25H2.

Thank you,

Bios F16 dated 2015  can be found here.

It is always dangerous to upgrade bios. Unless there is a real need and the HP support assistant requests the upgrade, I would not do it.

You have an older laptop, You might consider tiny 10 or tiny 11

Looks like F.50 was the last BIOS update released for the 17-n0xx model series:

If you have an older version and want to update the BIOS here are the links:

Info:

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp88501-89000/sp88872.html

Exe:

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp88501-89000/sp88872.exe

Yes, that is the version I have:

Insyde F.50, 6/27/2018

Are there any newer ones?

I understand that it can be risky to try to install BIOS versions that are not from HP and I am not adept at these type of things.  A beginner with 30 years of experience at best!

No, as far as I am aware, that was the final BIOS release.

HP retires support for consumer PCs when the model series reaches 10 years of age which is why there aren't any drivers available on the support site any more.

You have to search 3rd party driver sites and hope you can find the latest drivers that HP once had on the support site.

Then I take the softpaq file numbers they list and find them on the HP FTP site, although I have never come across an unsafe driver/BIOS file on the 3rd part sites I always use.

Thank you Paul,

How do I locate the sofrpaq file numbers and then find on the HP FTP site?

You're very welcome.

You have to go to a 3rd party driver site.

I use these 3:

Driverscollection, Softpedia and Helpdrivers.

The Driverscollection site is the easiest place to normally find drivers for many retired HP PCs, but the BIOS updates for the newer retired models are generally not the newest ones available.

Softpedia and Helpdrivers have more recent driver files.

I used the Helpdrivers site for the BIOS update for your notebook:

Hewlett Packard HP ENVY 17-n000 Notebook PC (Touch) Notebooks & Tablet PCs > Downloads Drivers, Util...

The first file listed happened to be the latest BIOS update.

As you can see the softpaq file number is sp88872.

The first thing I do is to do a search on the support forum to see if anyone (normally me) has posted the links to a softpaq file and in the case of the file I gave you, it appears that I did.

HP ENVY 17 n007ur BIOS - HP Support Community - 9393350

What if the file didn't exist on a forum search?

Then this is how I find the file on the HP FTP site:

All HP softpaqs are broken down into groups of 500.

001-500 and 501-000

For example, take the F.49 BIOS update (sp85682).

The file will always start with https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/

So to find the above file on the FTP site, I use notepad to create the link:

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp85501-86000/sp85682.exe

Copy the link to the address bar and the file will download.

To find an info link for the file, change the .exe to .html.

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp85501-86000/sp85682.html

And there you have it.

There are rare circumstances where HP has removed a file from the site, so if you get a page not found message, then you would have to use the file on the 3rd party driver site.

There are also circumstances--especially on very old files for W2K, XP and Vista where there is no info link.
