Hello,
My USB C Port transfers data, plays movies from USB key, charges phone and even powers an external DVD player as normal, however stopped charging laptop, or detecting Monitor using Hub over night. I have been searching for answers for 2 months, reading forum updates i.e resetting the laptop using start button, checking BIOS settings, changing power settings on device manager etc. but nothing seems to fix. I have tested the hub and monitor on another laptop and working fine. I use the laptop for work and has always been reliable. I can get by using the laptop screen, but a second screen is useful as I work in finance, and need to use excel data in our systems. I brought it to the shop I bought it from, as still under warranty and was told 2-4 to send to HP to check and fix. As I need for work this is not a viable option. I am hoping it is not the hardware, as still charging phone as mentioned above. Hoping it is a software update or tweak. Does anyone have help, or a solution? Thank you Conor

What is your machine ? Sounds like it has a hopeless USB-C port which does NOT support Alt mode nor Power Delivery. You can NOT use it to
- Charge your machine,
- Connect to an external monitor with/without hub/dock/adapter
If you wish to connect 2 external monitors (total 3), you can use
- Monitor 1: HDMI direct cable,
- Monitor 2: Using a Displaylink Certified USB-A to HDMI adapter such as

Hello BH,
Thank you for your reply. My laptop is HP ENVY x360 Convert. The USB C did power the laptop and connected to a monitor for 2 years without any problem. I have also used a USC to HDMI cable and the monitor is not detected. This stopped working overnight about 2 months ago. I don't remember any system updates or setting adjustments by me. My father has an older Dell Laptop and the HUB I was using connects to the Monitor using the USB C on that laptop and the USB C cable to HDMI also works. It is like the USB C has changed from charging and detecting monitors, to just charging phones etc. and transferring Data. It is the only USB C on the laptop and only has 2 other USB As Thank you Conor

What is your HP ENVY x360 Convert machine ? Many HP ENVY x360 machines DO have a good USB-C port. I tested on my HP ENVY x360 15-ee0047nr machine (nearly 6 years old now) with my HP USB-C G5 dock and yes, they worked.
FYI. The USB-C ports on my new zBook machine are unpredictable when connecting to a monitor (using direct USB-C to USB-C cable from machine to monitor), one day they work, other day do not. I won't spend money to buy thing (such as a USB-C to HDMI) just for testing, I used to work next to a big PC department and I can borrow many things to test, not now.
Regards.
