HP Spectre x360convertible 13-Ac0XX
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Any USB2 device plugged into the USB C ports via an adapter are not recognised on first insertion. ( Unless scan devices performed). If unplugged and re-inserted they work normally. All HP and Windows 10 updates are current.

Have tried all the usual re-install procedures to no avail.

Any thoughts out there?

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

Firstly, disconnect the HDMI and other USB devices connected before performing Windows Update and HP Support Assistant:

To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.

Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. To open HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon https://support.hp.com/doc-images/932/c05040382.jpg.
  2. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  3. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  4. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  5. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  6. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.
    And also
BIOS Update: Follow steps from the link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00042629

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Thanks for the response.

As stated in my question Windows 10 is up to date and HP Support Assistant does not see any outstanding updates or messages so I assumed everything is up to date.

Curiously however and prompted by your suggestion about checking the Bios version I discovered the "HP Customer Support-Software and Driver Downloads" page shows lots of updates available for my system on various items including a Bios update.

This begs the question which of your systems do I believe?  I also note none of the descriptions of the updates suggest they would help in solving my specific problem.

@jlbunting,

I suggest you go with the updates available on HP website as someone HP support assistant may not give you all the updates. However, uninstalling and reinstalling the support assistant should fix this issue.

I recommend you update the BIOS and the chipset driver from the below link and check if it helps.
