Hi All,
Have been trying to update my hard drive sortware from the HP drivers download page. Download with install assistant program from HP try to install and I recieve
Setup Status: Windows is using an EFI Boot loader, we can't deploy this update. Please refer to the readme file for instructions to update the firmware locally.
I also tried to download it without the use of the install assistant same problem. Now I can be good with computers, but I have no idea what an EFI bootloader is, or how to deploy updates locally. I can't even find the readme file! Any suggestions? Would be very much appreciated.

Hi there @livvy7678,
I hope you find your Support Forum experience a positive one! It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel. I understand that that you are trying to update hard drive firmware, and you are getting a message regarding the "EFI Boot loader". I am happy to help with this.
First, as you expressed interest, you may want to look at these pages that, while technical can help explain what an EFI bootloader is and its place in the UEFI.
Unified Extensible Firmware Interface -wikipedia.org
EFI system partition -wikipedia.org
GUID Partition Table -wikipedia.org
Is the update you are trying to do the "Hitachi Hard Drive Firmware Update" sp72533.exe? If so, are you intending on encrypting multiple drive partitions using Bitlocker?
Please let me know.

I found the following description from another forum post for the same issue but for a Seagate hard drive. How to update seagate hd firmware update. In the reply by @galaxygod21, he includes what appears to be the text for the readme file for that hard drive, which includes instructions on a local install.
"1. Download the file by clicking the Download or Obtain Software button and saving the file to a folder on your hard drive (make a note of the folder where the downloaded file is saved).
To run the utility locally under Windows:
1. Double-click the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.
2. At the end of the utility it will ask if you want to reboot now or later. Press the 'OK' button if you wish to reboot now.
3. The system will reboot to perform the firmware update and then power down the system. Manually power on the system to reboot back into Windows."
Sadly it is not anything very mysterious, and you have probably already done just what it said.
