Pavilion dv4-2106tx
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Since 1 week  I am bearing with a nagging issue: " Unknown device under Universal serial bus controller in device manager" with a yellow triangle.  I performed these steps:-

1.  Tried  Updation   via  on line  search  but showing  "the best driver is already  installed".

2.  Tried  Updation  via  " Browse My Computer for driver software but showing  Code:43 error"

3.  Tried  uninstalling  but with  every restart  it automatically came back with a  notification" Device Driver Software is not successfully installed"

4. At last I went for formatting  my  laptop hp "dv4-2106tx"   but the problem  is still there.

5.  I also tweaked battery power option  advanced settings but no result.

6.  Windows updation could not could not resolve this issue.

I need  to get rid of this nagging issue. If any body  want to  have a remote accress  then i am also ready.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

Let's perform Windows Update and HP Support Assistant:

To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.

Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. To open HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon https://support.hp.com/doc-images/932/c05040382.jpg.
  2. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  3. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  4. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  5. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  6. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

And, also BIOS Update: Follow steps from the link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00042629

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hello Echo_Lake,

At the outset thanks for the response. Here is the feedback against your suggestions.

1.  I did not find any updates via  hp support assistant

2.  Did not find anything to install after keeping my device to search for windows update.

3. I  performed windows analysis via hp support assistant  but no negative result observed  moreover the analysis  showed me no issue  of drivers.

4. Went  for another BIOS update  but no fruitful result.

5. Moreover every USB port is running fine.

6. I tried to uninstall  each  item under  Universal Serial Bus controller and  observed one  thing that,  after uninstalling  the 2nd  generic  USB Hub,   the Unknown Device  with  yellow  mark got uninstalled automatically.

Please help me to get rid of this issue.

Thank you for posting back.

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:

Are you still experiencing the same issue? "Unknown device under Universal serial bus controller in device manager"

According to your 6th pointer, what happens when you uninstall 2nd generic driver?

Does it come back when you restart your computer?

Keep me posted.

Hi,

Thanks for you reply. Here is what I found according  to 6th point :

1.  Firstly the issue is still there

2.   When I  tried uninstalling the 2nd generic USB  hub  then I saw the Unknown device also  got uninstalled but again came back  when the system was restarted with a notification" Device driver software was not successfully installed"  and again in device manager under Universal serial bus controller I saw  that Unknown device with yellow mark. No fruitful result but all the ports are working fine till date.

Need  utmost help  if you want to discuss the issue via whatsapp I am also ready for that.

This sounds like software related issue, reinstalling windows operating system will install original system software which was shipped the computer.

Click here to perform a System Recovery (Windows 7)

Note: Back up all personal files and read all caution statements before performing a system recovery.

Keep me posted.

@Jules0760

Thank you for posting back.

Glad to hear that all the USB ports are working fine. This sounds like software related issue which is not compatible with a new motherboard,

I would suggest the upcoming windows update should fix the compatibility issue.

NOTE: HP does not recommend upgrading or downgrading hardware parts or software that is bundled with the product as It may affect the manufacturer's warranty and performance, however, you could change the configuration at your own discretion.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

This is to inform you that motherboard has been replaced  on 2016, after that there was no issue  suddenly 7 days before the issue cropped up. Hence I need  more solid resolution .
