A recent upgrade to the HP Support Assistant to Version 8.3.50.9 resulted in the Assistant removing four uninstalled updates listed in the prior Assistant version.  I had performed a check for updates within the  Support Assistant software following the January 10 Windows 10 Update to the Anniversary edition.    Not sure why the new version did not carry over the uninstalled updates from the previous Assistant version.  One of the updates was the PC BIOS (ROM) update that appears to have created problems for many users--so perhaps io missed a bullet on that one.

Thank you for your suggestions!  I have not tried the manual update method as the current HPSA works fine and even brought up a new update to install when I last ran it automatically--just not one of the four original updates.  I will give this method a try and let you know what happens.

 

Your analysis of the situation makes good sense and tracks with what I have observed with my parents' HP All-in-One computer that was manufactured in April 2016.  That computer uses a Haswell processor, and when it updated to the Windows 10 Anniversary Edition it retained the original HPSA version and also all of the four updates.  The HPSA on that computer has been updated twice (due to Windows Updates beng installed ) since the Anniversary Edition was installed, yet it still shows those four updates needing installation.  Those updates were the same ones that continued to show as needing to be installed on my laptop until it was updated to the Anniversary Edition, after which they disappeared from the HPSA.  Even though the laptop is an older computer --it was manufactured in December 2015--it uses a newer Skylake processor and I suspect the older updates may be incompatible or not needed as you suggested, so they no longert show.

 

As final proof you are most likely correct, I offer the following:

 

HP AIO Desktop (Haswell) HPSA Version:  8.0.29.6 after January 2017 Windows 10 Updates installed

 

HP Laptop (Skylake) HPSA Version:  8.3.50.9 after January 2017 Windows 10 Updates installed

The updates may have been errors in HPSA and they were corrected in newer version-wouldn't be a first time for HPSA. Or the updates, especially the BIOS, may have been pulled due to problems reported and old version of HPSA did not refresh list.
