There's a gesture where you raise your hand and it will play/pause video playback. I want to turn this off.

In the myHP software, I have made sure this gesture is toggled OFF. However, it still happens. Is this gesture from Windows? Or is the myHP software faulty and still leaving the gesture on, even when I have turned it off?

This is the screenshot of the alert that pops up whenever I have inadvertently activated the gesture. Where is this coming from?

Hi @Renesis7, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

This gesture-based pause/resume functionality is likely coming from HP’s myHP software or Windows' built-in accessibility features. Since you have already toggled it OFF in myHP but still experience the issue, there are a few possibilities:

1️⃣ HP myHP Software Not Disabling the Gesture Properly

  • The myHP software may not be correctly saving the setting, which means the gesture is still active despite being turned off.

2️⃣ Windows Touch/Hand Gesture Feature

  • Windows has "Touch Gestures" and "Hand Tracking" settings that might be controlling this. If the gesture persists even after disabling it in myHP, Windows might be handling it instead.

🔧 How to Fix It:

Step 1: Try Disabling Windows' Hand Gestures

  1. Go to Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Touchpad (if you are using a touchscreen).
  2. Look for three-finger or four-finger gestures and turn them off.
  3. If you have a camera-based gesture feature, go to Settings → Privacy & security → Camera and see if any "Hand tracking" or similar options are enabled.

Step 2: Disable myHP from Running at Startup

If myHP is still forcing the gesture, try stopping it:

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  2. Go to Startup apps.
  3. Find myHP, right-click, and choose Disable.
  4. Restart your PC and check if the issue persists.

Step 3: Uninstall and Reinstall myHP

If the issue is specifically coming from myHP and not Windows:

  1. Uninstall myHP from Settings → Apps → Installed Apps.
  2. Restart your PC.
  3. Download the latest version from the HP website and reinstall it.
  4. Try disabling the gesture again and see if it works properly.

ℹ️ Final Check: Is This a Windows Feature or HP Software?

If the issue stops when myHP is removed, the problem is with myHP software.
If it still happens, then Windows is controlling the gesture.

Try disabling Windows' built-in gesture settings as mentioned above.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
