Hello to all,

Please help, I am stuck. First time not able to find solution among forum  replies and I am thinking of buying 2 litres of gasoline and burning the laptop 🙂

I need to enable virtualization to be able to run Android Studio.

Basic info:

- Intel Core m5-6Y57 CPU

- 8Gb RAM

- Intel 515 GPU

- Laptop supports VTx and VTd - it is shown in BIOS and I am able to select it

- Hyper-V is disabled - both ways through Windows features and by running cmd code dism.exe /Online /Disable-Feature:Microsoft-Hyper-V (succesfull outcome)

- Hyperthreading is disabled in BIOS as well and with cmd code - shows off

- BIOS updated

- Windows 10 official

- I have a BIOS password

- BIOS version N85 Ver. 01.32

Issue: When none of the virtualization is selected (Speecy program) shows under Virtualization: Supported, Disabled BUT the wierd thing comes now - when I select either of the virtualizations in BIOS it shows NOT SUPPORTED! (**bleep**)

Wierd things: I am able to instal from Android Studio the required Intel x86 Emulator Accelerator (HAXM installer) but not when I want to install it outside Android Studio even with the workaround patch...standard not supported message and hint for Hyper-V comes up.

So, I have tried all the basic unplug/plug back things like reinstaling Android Studio, reinstaling HAXM, enabling and disabling Hyper-V,  choosing only one virtualization options, choosing both, w and w/o BIOS password, rolling back BIOS to previous version, running HP support assistant to check for errors,  updating Windows, uninstaling antivirus software, device guard not active, singing matra songs, lighting a candle in church, slatering a chiken (joking - Disclamer: no animals are hurt in the process :))...

Please good people of Earth help me 🙂

Actually,  you don't have the most recent version of the BIOS installed.

It is located at the following HP driver download web page.

Why do you need to install the HAXM external to the Android studio?  The Android studion installer will install it on its own. I installed Android studio without going into the BIOS to enable VTx. Enabling Hyper-V is not necessary.

Hello Provost,

First of all, thx for the reply. I appriciate any help at this point.

I have gone back to the latest BIOS (I already tried the 33 version and BIOS actally recommended for me to downgrade to 32) still the same issue remains.

Android Studio is unable to install HAXM - gives an error - again in the lines of device not supporting virtualization and then the instalation of HAXM fails.

I have tried to reinstal Android Studio multiple times and downloaded it couple of times to make sure that the file is not corrupted but no luck.

So, I am able to instal Android Studio,  then I disable virtualization in BIOS (the strange thing) then I go into Android Studio and install HAXM  without any problems. Still, when I run the simplest example app it gives an error that hardvare acceleration is needed for the emulator.

I am not able to run GenyMotion nor VM both give me info that virtualization is not supported or general comment that Hyper-V could be enabled...

Any other idea? 🙂

Two screen shoots that could be interesting.

Whlle Android Studio is still refusing to work intelhaxm is behaving strangely.

I am able to start/stop/start intelhaxm when virtualization is disabled in BIOS but when I enable virtualization in BIOS i get 1. intelhaxm is not running and 2. not able to start it - attached device is not fuctioning.

Screen shoot attached.

I noticed that you are runnning an older version of Windows 10.

Is there a reason that you have not upgraded to version 1803?

Are you running Windows 10 Home?

Hyper-V isn't available for Windows 10 Home. Virtaul machines are not available in Windows 10 Home.

If you are running Windows 10 Home instead of the Pro version, that is likely to be the reason you are having this issue.

Try enabling Hyper-V  in Windows features and then try again.

Hey just to add more info 🙂

Run GenyMotion in few modes and then looked at logs:

1. Bios  vtx on, Hyper on - VT-x is not available (VERR_VMX_NO_VMX)

2. Bios vtx on, Hyper off - VT-x is not available (VERR_VMX_NO_VMX)

2. Bios vtx off, hyper off - VT-x is disabled in the BIOS for all CPU modes (VERR_VMX_MSR_ALL_VMX_DISABLED)

I am at a loss on this one.

Hopefully someone else can help.
