Victus by HP 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop 15-fb0000 (598U8AV)

Hello, I am facing an issue with my HP Victus 15 laptop. The battery drains even when the laptop is completely shut down. Within 1–2 weeks of being powered off, the battery level drops significantly. Could you please let me know why this happens and how it can be fixed?

@SHIVAM901, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

The battery drain issue in your HP Victus 15 laptop even when it's shut down may be due to various factors. Here's a detailed guide on understanding and resolving this common problem:

Possible Causes:

Residual Power Usage: Even when completely shut down, some components like network cards or USB ports may still draw power for functionalities like "wake on LAN" or charging external devices.

Battery Age and Condition: Over time, all batteries have a natural decrease in efficiency and capacity, which can cause them to drain faster even when not in use.

BIOS Settings: Certain settings such as connected standby or fast startup might allow the laptop to use a minuscule amount of power.

Steps to Fix:

Check and Change BIOS Settings:

  • Restart the laptop and enter the BIOS menu (usually by pressing F10 or ESC when booting up).
  • Look for any settings related to power management, wake functions, or USB charging and disable them.

Ensure Proper Shutdown:

  • Make sure to shut down completely instead of using sleep or hibernation mode.

Battery and Laptop Maintenance:

  • Regularly calibrate the battery by charging it to 100%, discharging completely, and then charging again.
  • Consider getting the battery checked or replaced if it's old or worn out.

Software Updates:

  • Ensure all drivers and the BIOS are updated to the latest version, as updates can sometimes fix power management issues or improve efficiency.

Disable Fast Startup:

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
  • Uncheck "Turn on fast startup (recommended)".

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
