HP Pavilion X360 Convertible
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently purchased the machine & completed installation of system updates.  As the mouse is very sensitive I ended up moving some files accidentally from the system folders while I was move the mouse over Winodows Explorer.  This resulted into stoppage of one of the softwares installed.  I want to eliminate this issue by protecting system files.  Dont know if partitioning the drive works best or I have put administrative rights for access to avoid accidental movement of system files while I am using Windows Explorer.

Please help.

There is Disk Management -- which is an MS solution -- but it severely limits how much you can shrink your OS partition (which is usually the largest one on the drive and, as a result, has the most unused space), so I don't recommend it.

Here's a link to a free partitioning tool I use all the time:  http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html

But ... as I said .. be sure to confirm that you do not already have four partitions on your drive -- as OEM PCs often come with all four partitions already allocated.

Hello;

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

Certainly, if you repartition your drive to add a "data" partition and migrate your files there, you won't then have to worry about having Explorer open on the "system" partition while you're moving files around.

Just be sure that your drive does NOT already have the maximum of 4 partitions allocated.  OEM PCs often DO come with all those partitions assigned, and when that is the case, you will be prevented from creating any more partitions.

Thank you!!  This helps me. What's the best way to partition the drive?  Is there any inbuilt solution with Winodws 10?
