Hi @prouduncwmom13,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If you're seeing a “Critical Registry Issue Detected” notification on your HP Spectre x360, here’s what you need to know and do:

1: Is the Message Legitimate?

This type of message is often not from Windows itself, but from:

  • third-party registry cleaner or optimization tool.
  • Potentially unwanted software (PUP) or even a scam pop-up trying to get you to install or buy something.

Do not click “Resolve Now” unless you're 100% sure it's from a trusted source.

2: Remove Suspicious Software

  1. Open Settings > Apps > Installed Apps.
  2. Look for any unfamiliar or recently installed apps (especially registry tools or optimizers).
  3. Uninstall anything suspicious.

Step 3: Run System File Checker (SFC)

  1. Press Windows + X → select Windows Terminal (Admin).
  2. Type: sfc /scannow
  3. Press Enter and wait for the scan to complete. This will repair any corrupted system files.

Step 4: Use DISM Tool (if needed)

If SFC finds issues it can’t fix:

  1. In the same terminal, type: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  2. Press Enter and wait for it to finish.

Step 5: Run a Full Malware Scan

  1. Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection.
  2. Click Scan options → choose Full scan.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
