When I try to install Turbo Tax software, I get a message: "The App you are trying to install isn't a Microsoft Verified App". I am then told to download the necessary App from the Microsoft App Store.
I am not technically very savvy and don't know what software to down load or how I can get around this requirement.

Sounds to me like you have a notebook that came with Windows in S-Mode.
In order to install apps not found in the Micrsoft Store, you have to switch out of S-Mode.

Note: Once you make the switch, you cannot go back to S-Mode.
