Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Date here: May 19 2019. I own a brand new retail Dec 2018 HP notebook/laptop. I would like to know why the installed HP Support Assistant in which I thought a good idea to use to keep my HP notebook updated does not recognize in HP Support Assistant that a firmware update the same exact update is already installed but is still listed in my HP Support Assistant for my HP notebook? It is apparent to me that the HP Support Assistant is not a reliable tool for updates if it does not scan or know what updates are or have been installed on my HP notebook/laptop. This firmware update actually came in Windows 10 updates and I have verified it is the exact same firmware update the HP Support Assistant is not recognizing is already installed.

Your observation is correct:

HPSA (HP Support Assistant) is nice software - it is not 100% capable nor is it 100% accurate in every case.

My opinion

In particular, do not (at least at this writing) use the HPSA to update the BIOS.

Reminder - Do NOT use the HPSA to update the BIOS

How to install BIOS Updates:

HP Notebook PCs - Updating the BIOS (Basic Input Output System)

HP Desktop PCs - Updating the BIOS (Basic Input Output System)

Remove the unwanted update from the HP Support Assistant

Open HPSA > click on your product and / or Check for Updates > Select the offending update > Click on the Trash icon

Manage your HP Software

Lots of people choose to manage their own HP Software and Updates.

You may certainly choose to do so.

Open the computer's Software and Driver Website Support

Expand the list of Updates Boxes_Plus.JPG

Peruse the list for Updates in which you have an interest

Decide which / what software to download and install on your computer.
