2018 Spectre x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

So I left my laptop alone for 20 mins or so this evening to go ot the local shop and upon my return it had restarted or up dated or some something that seemed like an update.
My touchpad was competely disabled and I needed to plug in a mouse to use the cursor at all. It seems it had auto installed the Synaptics driver and kicked my Precision Driver off and I cannot get it back,

Does anyone else use the Precision Driver? Has it stopped working for anyone?

I can't fathom why when paying nigh on £2000 for a laptop with crappy Synaptics drivers and I don't even have the option to use Windows Precision?

Same thing happened to me. Some solutions are here: https://www.reddit.com/r/spectrex360/comments/aermtt/anyone_else_having_touchpad_problems_after_late...

Although many are finding that Windows Update will just overwrite any drivers you install (including any old HP synaptics non-precision ones) with the new version if your internet is turned on and you reboot.

Ahhh man, I can't thank you enough. That's fixed my issue!

I cannot fathom why anyone would put Synaptics on a laptop, it's just horrific, I didn't realise just how  good Precision was until I was forced to go back to Synaptics.

Here's hoping I don't have to mess about with my laptop every time I reboot...

totally agree - the precision drivers are infinitely better than the original ones! i can’t imagine going back. it’s also completely frustrating that the touchpad on our very expensive laptop has three and four finger gesture support, but the drivers available at purchase don’t let you customise them. it’s totally ridiculous.

in any case, on that same reddit page there’s a solution which involves blocking a windows driver update to stop the driver being altered, and that seems to be working for me so far.

I've tried blocking updates on CCTV PCs at work, it never works. Windows somehow always re-enables the updates.

I have no idea how to go about pretitioning HP about getting these terrible drivers off of our machines for good.

This is the method I used:

Maybe try giving it a go? But turn off your internet, reboot, and then turn the internet on and run the troubleshooter and hopefully it will pick up the driver update.

Here are my instructions of how to go back to the precision touchpad driver: https://pastebin.com/z4RUShaS

Hello,

The moment when I uninstall the synaptics drivers, the driver will immidiatly come back, when I reboot my laptop. Because of this I cannot install the older synaptics drivers.

I thought I'm the only one. I'll never recommend hp's products again. Even its premium laptop sucks so bad because of the stupid synaptics driver. But does this also mean I've to disable windows update to use the precision driver?
