Hi @priyabasava,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear that resolving an HP BIOS recovery failure usually comes down to the USB drive's format and the specific key combination used to trigger the recovery.

Follow this step-by-step troubleshooting process to successfully recover your HP BIOS.

1. Re-Create the USB Recovery Drive:

Often, the recovery fails because the USB wasn't prepared correctly.

  • Use a different, working computer to create the recovery drive.

  • Insert a USB flash drive (avoid USB-C drives, as they are not reliable for BIOS recovery).

  • Format the USB to FAT32 to ensure the motherboard can read it.

  • Go to the HP Customer Support website, enter your exact model number, and download the latest BIOS file.

  • Run the downloaded executable file (.exe), select Create Recovery USB flash drive, and point it to your inserted drive.

2. Perform a Hard Reset (EC Reset):

Before attempting the recovery again, clear residual power that might be causing the motherboard to freeze:

  • Turn off the corrupted computer. Remove all USB devices and memory cards, and disconnect the AC adapter.

  • Press and hold the Power Button for 15 to 25 seconds to drain the system's power.

  • Reconnect the AC adapter and the USB drive you created.

3. Trigger the Recovery Mode Properly:

  • Ensure the laptop is completely powered off.

  • Press and hold both the Windows key and the B key simultaneously.

  • While still holding those keys, press and hold the Power button for 2 to 3 seconds, then release the Power button.

  • Continue holding the Windows + B keys for another 5–10 seconds. The screen may remain black for up to a minute, and fans may spin up.

  • If successful, the HP BIOS Update screen or beeping sounds will begin.

4. Alternative Methods:

If Windows + B does not trigger the recovery, try the following variants:

  • Windows + V: Hold Windows + V and press the power button for 2-3 seconds, continuing to hold Windows + V until the BIOS Reset screen appears.

  • Different USB Port: Plug the USB drive into a different port, preferably the one closest to the back or the one furthest to the left.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
