I simply want to update the BIOS on a computer from 2016. A non-windows guide would be amazing, considering the website at the moment is not helpful.
thanks!
([personal info removed] serial, F.17 bios version, 15.17 bios revision, 09/08/2016 bios date.)

Hi:
You will have to use another Windows PC to create a BIOS update flash drive using the latest BIOS update (F.49) from your notebook's support page.
Driver - HP Notebook - 15-ay192nr | HP® Customer Support
Read the info at the link below under the section: Update the BIOS manually from a USB flash drive (outside of Windows)

When looking at the website page for the BIOS update, it mentions, "The update installs on supported computer models using a supported Microsoft Windows Operating System." Considering the fact that my laptop runs Ubuntu 22.10, flavor Budgie 10.6.x (It's either xx.x.1 or xx.x.4.), can I be sure that this will work?
Best Regards,

I assume it would work if you have another computer running Windows to create the USB flash drive with the BIOS update files on it.
That would not require you to be in Windows when you update the BIOS.
Update the BIOS manually from a USB flash drive (outside of Windows)
If Windows does not open, use a second working computer with internet access to download the BIOS update. Copy the update file to a USB flash drive and install it on the original computer.
