I recently upgraded to Windows10. Since then, I have been unable to extract important work information from zip files that I have downloaded. These are mostly pictures for marketing purposes, but I have contacted my employer and the problem is not at their end. Help!

Hi,
Have you tried a third party utility such as 7-Zip? If not, see the link below ( Unless you know otherwise, you probably want to install the 64bit version ).

Hi
I would suggest using 7zip, it is quite comprehensive and hopefully will solve your problem.

There is always the possibility of having them sent as self extracting with a pre-arranged password, but sometimes this can be blocked by filters.
If in doubt please ask.

Hi
Basing this on the only change being Windows 10, I would place the blame initially on Security Essentials.
Windows Defender is built into the latest versions of Windows and helps guard your PC against viruses and other malware.
And probably filters zip files.
If you have some historic zip files, that are known to work you could just check opening one of them, while not conclusive proof it would certainly point the finger.
You could try
Settings; Updates and Security; Windows Defender;
Either temporarily stop Real-time protection and/or create an exception.
You could of course have some other A/V installed that is also involved.
If in doubt please ask.

I have been extracting zip files wth my HP Notebook PC for 9 years. Nobody can tell me that I havn't been.
I do NOT or NEVER had any file opening Software on this computer. It is running Windows 7 64 bit and is
a Great computer. I use it like a destop most of the time and at least 8 hours a day.(geek and retired)
I also had an Acer Aspire Desktop computer but it didn't last as long as the HP notebook. That Acer
was running Windows 7 64 bit and it opened Zip files by just Right Clicking on the file. Both Computers
had a choce to "Extract All". My HP stopped downloading Zip fils that looked like a Zip file and also
stopped extracting Zip files November 23, 2018. HAPPY THANKSGIVING
