Ive been getting this error on my laptop and I truly have no idea how to fix it.

Every time my laptop turns on from being off I get this "CMOS checksum is invalid" error.... and then it tells me to "check BIOS status"

If I were to update the BIOS on my laptop will that delete things off of my laptop. Also I read that I need to figure out which update my laptop needs -- How do I go about doing that?

Ive tried following tutorials online, but I don't want to accidently change something and screw up my laptop (I've done that before accidently deleting a file that I needed my laptop to run on). Please ADvise, any help is truly appreciated!

Thanks!! 🙂

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue. Let's try these steps to resolve the issue:

  1. Open the Keyboard control panel item, as described in Method 1.
  2. Click the Hardware tab, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Change Settings button
Note This step requires Administrator access
  4. Click the Power Management tab, and then verify that the Allow this device to wake the computer is enabled.
  5. Click OK, and then click OK again.

BIOS Default:

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

If the computer restarts normally and the error message does not display, you are done. If the error message displays proceed to the next step.

BIOS Update: Follow steps from the link to update the BIOS: https://hp.care/2w2R6uD.
