SysInfoCap.exe is running on the nVidia GTX 1650 causing unacceptable battery drain, I disabled autorun of SysInfoCap.exe to prevent this, but then HP Support Assistant can't function, and fastboot stops working. I have re-enabled SysInfoCap.exe for the time being. Any thoughts please?

Hi @BrokeAssBrit,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
SysInfoCap.exe is part of HP Support Assistant and other HP diagnostic tools that use system information capture components. It seems to be placing an unnecessary load on your NVIDIA GTX 1650 GPU, resulting in battery drain. Disabling the autorun stops battery drain but also impacts HP Support Assistant and fast boot, as you noticed.
To tackle this, you could try the following approaches.
Update or Reinstall HP Support Assistant
Since you have multiple instances of SysInfoCap.exe across different HP applications, it's possible that outdated or conflicting versions are causing issues. Try the following:
- Uninstall HP Support Assistant completely.
- Reboot your system.
- Download and install the latest version of HP Support Assistant from the HP website.
Updating should consolidate the instances of SysInfoCap.exe and possibly resolve compatibility issues causing the battery drain.
Limit SysInfoCap.exe's GPU Usage
Another approach could involve limiting the power the application draws from your GPU:
- Open the NVIDIA Control Panel.
- Go to Manage 3D settings > Program Settings.
- Find SysInfoCap.exe in the list (or add it manually by locating its path).
- Set the Preferred graphics processor to Integrated Graphics instead of the GTX 1650.
This can prevent the process from unnecessarily running on the dedicated GPU, which would reduce battery usage.
Adjust HP Support Assistant Settings
Within HP Support Assistant, you might also find options to adjust or disable specific background monitoring services, like system health checks. This can reduce the app’s background activity and improve battery life without disabling the app entirely.
Use Task Scheduler to Limit Launch Frequency
If SysInfoCap.exe doesn't need to run continuously, consider adjusting its trigger settings in Task Scheduler:
- Open Task Scheduler (taskschd.msc).
- Locate any tasks associated with HP Support Assistant or SysInfoCap.exe.
- Modify the task trigger to limit its frequency (e.g., run only once a day or only at system startup).
This can help strike a balance between keeping HP Support Assistant functional while reducing its battery impact.
Monitor with Resource Manager
Use Resource Monitor or Task Manager to keep an eye on SysInfoCap.exe's activity, checking when and why it consumes resources. This can give insight into when it’s using your GPU and suggest when you may need to manually disable it temporarily for longer battery life.
Let me know if any of these adjustments help manage the battery drain without losing functionality!
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
