HP Notebook - 17-by2003ca

I'm trying to upgrade my laptop's RAM, GPU driver, and the driver for my elan touchpad that isn't working, but the hp driver page doesn't include windows 11 in the dropdown, even though they said they'd end support for windows 10 (which is why i upgraded in the first place).

can I/should I downgrade back to windows 10?

I spent $150 to repair my laptop but now I'm wondering if it's simply a lost cause because it's so old. any help is appreciated, thanks.

@TdotSH, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding driver compatibility after upgrading to windows 11

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

After checking the official HP support page for your HP 17-by2000 laptop series, it looks like Windows 10 is listed as the supported operating system for drivers. This suggests that your device was primarily designed and tested for Windows 10 compatibility.

👉 You can find the compatible drivers for Windows 10 here: HP 17-by2000 laptop series drivers

Since Windows 11 drivers aren't available, you may encounter issues with certain hardware components like the Elan touchpad or GPU driver. If these issues persist and affect daily usability, you might want to consider rolling back to Windows 10. Windows 10 will continue to receive security updates until October 14, 2025, so you'll still have support for a while.

If you decide to downgrade, you can follow these steps:

  1. Open SettingsSystemRecovery
  2. Select Go back (if available)
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions

Take care, and have an amazing day!

What happens to my laptop series designed for windows 10 support after October 14th? Will it be able to be moved over to windows 11 support eventually or will it simply just not have support at all?

@TdotSH, Thanks for getting back with your follow-up question!

After October 14, 2025, Windows 10 will officially reach its end-of-support phase, meaning it will no longer receive security updates from Microsoft. However, your HP 17-by2000 series laptop will continue to function as usual—it just won’t get new Windows 10 updates, which could eventually lead to security risks over time.

As for Windows 11 compatibility, HP hasn’t released official drivers for this model under Windows 11, which suggests it wasn’t tested or optimized for the upgrade. While some drivers might work via Windows Update or third-party sources, there's no guarantee that all hardware components (like your Elan touchpad) will function smoothly.

If your current setup is causing major issues and affecting usability, reverting to Windows 10 might be the more stable option for now. Otherwise, you can try manually updating individual drivers (starting with the GPU and touchpad) and see if that improves performance.

Let me know how things go—I’m happy to help in any way I can! 😊

Take care, and have an amazing day!
