Hi @Amanosi6969,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If the fingerprint reader is not setting up on your HP PC running Windows 11, let's go through the following steps to help identify and resolve the issue.

1. Make Sure a Windows Hello PIN Is Set Up:

Windows Hello fingerprint sign-in requires a PIN before biometric authentication can be configured.

  • Press Windows + I to open Settings.

  • Navigate to Accounts > Sign-in options.

  • Under PIN (Windows Hello), create a PIN if one is not already configured.

  • Once the PIN is set, try configuring Fingerprint Recognition (Windows Hello) again.

2. Remove and Re-add Fingerprint Registration:

If a previous fingerprint profile is corrupted, recreating it may help.

  • Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.

  • Expand Fingerprint recognition (Windows Hello).

  • If fingerprints are already registered, select Remove.

  • Click Set up and follow the on-screen instructions to register your fingerprint again.

3. Reinstall the Fingerprint Driver:

A damaged or outdated biometric driver can prevent fingerprint enrollment.

  • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.

  • Click View > Show hidden devices.

  • Expand Biometric devices.

  • Right-click the fingerprint sensor (such as Synaptics, Goodix, or ELAN) and select Uninstall device.

  • If available, select Attempt to remove the driver for this device.

  • Restart the PC.

Windows should automatically reinstall the driver. If it does not, download and install the latest fingerprint driver from the Official HP® Support

4. Restart the Windows Biometric Service:

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.

  • Locate Windows Biometric Service.

  • Right-click the service and select Restart.

  • Open Properties and ensure the Startup type is set to Automatic.

  • Click Apply and OK.

5. Check Enhanced Sign-in Security Settings:

Some systems may experience compatibility issues when this feature is enabled.

  • Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.

  • Under Additional settings, look for Enhanced sign-in security.

  • If available, temporarily turn it off.

  • Restart the PC and test fingerprint setup again.

6. Verify Fingerprint Reader Is Enabled in BIOS:

If the fingerprint device is not visible in Device Manager, verify that it is enabled in BIOS.

  • Shut down the computer.

  • Turn it on and repeatedly tap F10 to enter BIOS Setup.

  • Navigate to Security or Advanced settings.

  • Locate Fingerprint Sensor or Device Security settings.

  • Confirm the fingerprint reader is enabled.

  • Save the changes and exit BIOS.

Please let us know the exact HP model and whether the fingerprint reader appears under Biometric Devices in Device Manager if the issue persists.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day!
