Hi @khacthinh

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If your fingerprint sensor works once and then stops responding, it’s likely due to a driver conflict, power management setting, or Windows Hello configuration glitch. A clean reset of the biometric setup and driver usually restores consistent recognition.

Step-by-Step: Fix Fingerprint Recognition Failure in Windows 11

1. Remove and Re-register Fingerprint

  • Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options
  • Under Fingerprint recognition (Windows Hello), click Remove
  • Restart your PC
  • Return to the same menu and click Set up to re-register your fingerprint

This clears any corrupted biometric profile and refreshes the recognition process.

2. Update or Reinstall Fingerprint Driver

  • Press Windows + X > Device Manager
  • Expand Biometric Devices
  • Right-click your fingerprint sensor > Uninstall device
  • Restart your PC and let Windows reinstall the driver automatically

If the issue persists, download the latest fingerprint driver from:
HP Drivers and Software

Enter your laptop model and install the Validity or Synaptics Fingerprint Driver listed under Windows 11.

3. Disable Power Saving for Fingerprint Sensor

  • In Device Manager, right-click the fingerprint sensor > Properties
  • Go to the Power Management tab
  • Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power
  • Click OK

This prevents the sensor from being disabled after initial use.

4. Run Windows Biometric Troubleshooter

  • Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters
  • Scroll down and run Hardware and Devices
  • Also run Windows Hello Authentication Troubleshooter if listed

These tools scan for biometric conflicts and repair authentication services.

5. Check for Windows Updates

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update
  • Install all pending updates, especially under Optional updates > Driver updates

Updates often include biometric fixes and compatibility improvements.

Let me know how the sensor responds after re-registering and updating the driver. If needed, I can guide you through testing with a local account or verifying TPM and Secure Boot settings.

You're doing everything right—this sequence should help restore smooth fingerprint login.
