Chrome OS

I can not download apps from Google play store even though the site says the HP Chromebook x360 is compatable.  Play store just says the app may be installed soon, and that my laptop is incompatable.  How do I get past this?  Most annoying since my last Chromebook was an ACER and it took the same apps I am trying to download now on a much newer laptop.  Please advise,  gwohl

Hi @gwohl,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are trying to enable app downloads from the Google Play Store on your HP Chromebook x360, try these steps to troubleshoot the compatibility issue:

1. Confirm Google Play Store is Enabled

  • Open Settings on your Chromebook.
  • Scroll down to Google Play Store. If it's not already on, turn it on and agree to the terms of service.

2. Check Chrome OS Update

  • Make sure your Chromebook is running the latest version of Chrome OS:
    • Go to Settings > About Chrome OS > Check for updates.
  • Restart your Chromebook if an update was installed.

3. Clear Play Store Cache and Data

  • Go to Settings > Apps > Manage your apps.
  • Find Google Play Store and Google Play Services.
  • Clear the cache and data for both services.

4. Ensure Device Compatibility for Specific Apps

  • Some apps may have specific requirements or restrictions. Even if the Google Play Store is enabled, an app may still show as incompatible if it detects a hardware limitation (e.g., for games requiring high-end graphics).
  • Check the app's requirements on the Google Play Store website.

5. Try a Different Google Account

  • Sometimes, Google account settings can affect app availability.
  • Log out of your Google account, restart your Chromebook, and then log in with another account to see if that allows downloads.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
