Product No: P1F11UA#ABA
Windows Version: Windows 10 Home 1703
I haven't used the camera on my laptop in a while so not entirely sure when the problem started. But when opening the built-in camera app the following message popped up:
I found HP Truevision driver installed but under the hidden drivers view only. No updates were found for it. I tried installing YouCam but that didn't work either. What should i do? Where can I reinstall the latest version of the driver?

Welcome to HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.
I understand that you have an HP ENVY TouchSmart m7-j120dx Notebook. I understand that you haven't used the camera on the laptop for a while, and now the camera does not work. The laptop is not able to find the camera. You have reinstalled the HP Truevision driver and also installed the YouCam software but the issue persists. You've done a remarkable job performing the steps.
I recommend you to perform the following steps to check if the webcam is detected in the Device Manager:
-
In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.
-
In Device Manager, double-click Imaging devices.
-
Verify that your webcam or video device is listed under Imaging devices. If the webcam is listed, skip to Updating the webcam driver. If not, continue with the next step.
Figure : Device Manager
- If there is no webcam or video device listed, select Imaging devices and select Scan for hardware changes to scan for the webcam or video device.
- NOTE: If no hardware is found after running the scan, there might be an issue with the webcam hardware.
- If a webcam or video device is found, right-click on the device and select Enable.
- Open YouCam to see if the application opens with the selected webcam. If this did not resolve the issue, continue to the next step.
Update webcam drivers:
-
Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
-
In Device Manager, double-click Imaging devices.
-
Right-click your webcam or video device, then select Update Driver Software.
-
In the Update Driver Software window, select Search automatically for updated driver software.
-
Figure : Update Driver Software window
-
After the message, Windows has successfully updated your driver software, or The best driver software for your device is already installed, click Close.
-
Open YouCam to see if the application opens and the driver update resolves the error message.
-
If Device Manager does not recognize the webcam after the scan, use Microsoft System Restore to go back to a time when the webcam was working properly.
-
Make sure the webcam drivers and software are compatible with your version of Windows. Go to the webcam manufacturer's website to download and install any driver updates.
-
To automatically resolve several known problems with Windows recognizing the webcam, click the Microsoft Fix it Solution and try using the webcam again.
I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Keep me posted on how it goes. Cheers! 🙂

I have the same problem. The solutions above don't work and MS Fixit does not work with Windows 10. MS recommends the Troubleshoot feature in the Update and Security settings area. However that does not find any problem either.
HP Support Assistant does not report any problems or any needed updates.

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. 🙂
I understand that you too are facing an issue with the HP Truevision HD driver not working. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.
May I know the exact model no. of your laptop? This link will help you to find the model no: http://hp.care/2bygf7l
I did some further research on this case and found the below workaround that has fixed this issue on one of our previous cases:
- With Youcam still on, go back to the device manager and search for new devices.
- And immediately go back to the Youcam window and now it should say "we have detected you have Hp truevision webcam, would you like to use this device?"
- Click on ok, the image capture box may flash in different colors for a second, and then should have the image of you.
Let me know. Cheers! 🙂

This doesn't work either. With YouCam running the dialogue appears "Warning Youcam has found anew webcam ( ). Do you want to begin using it. I then go to Device Manager. HP Truevision HD appears under Imaging devices. I then "Scan for hardware changes" and go back to YouCam. I then click yes on the found new webcam dialogue. The Device Manager cycles, but then I get the same Warning from YouCam.

Thanks for replying with the information. I truly appreciate it.
The product number indicates that you have an HP Pavilion dm1-4010us Entertainment laptop and it originally came with Win7. ARe you still using Win7 or have you upgraded the operating system?
I suggest you to perform the steps from the following HP articles to fix the issue:
NOTE: If you encounter any steps which you have already performed then please skip them and continue with the next step.
Hope this does the trick. let me know. Cheers! 🙂

As the title of this thread indicates, I am using Windows 10 Creator's Update. I did a clean install that deleted the entire drive before installation.
I have already tried multiple times to update the driver as suggested in Testing a Webcam Using YouCam (Windows 10, 8, 7)
Windows recognizes the hardware as HP Truevision HD but youcam cannot connect to it. Skype reports that it is in use by another proram. The Win 10 Camera app reports something went wrong. error code: 0xA00F4271(0x80070002}

I included the Win7 document in error. It was my bad.
Please review the troubleshooting steps from this HP link: Webcam Troubleshooting (Windows 10, 😎
Hope this does the trick. Good luck!

I found this before and tried it. It does not work.
Here is another thread saying the issue was supposed to have been sent to programmers. https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/hp-truevision-hd-windows-10/td-p/5396...
