HP Support Assistant keeps telling me that I need to install an update for "intel inter-integrated circuit (i2c) driver".

Every time I try to do it though, it fails.

What is a solution to this problem?

Thanks!

Greetings @ruzicka

Thanks for taking an interest in the HP Support Forums! After reading your post I understand that HP Support Assistant is prompting you to update the i2c driver and it fails. I would like to help you.

The issue you are facing could be with the HP Support Assistant, recommend you to uninstall HP Support Assistant and install it by downloading it from our website, refer to this article  http://hp.care/2fvNQNc This article will not only help you download HP Support Assistant, it also helps you to use it as well.

Sometimes, HP Support Assistant might say that there is an update available and it would fail to install it, a probable reason could be that there might be a more updated version already installed on your PC and HP Support Assistant failed to recognize it.

You could also look to download the driver from www.hp.com/drivers by entering the product number and download it manually.

Hope this helped, for further assistance please help me with the screenshot and the product number of your computer.

Okay, I uninstalled and reinstalled HP Support Assistant.

Now, when I "check for updates and messages", it fails.  I cannot get ANY updates now.

Hey @ruzicka

Thanks for the reply and thanks for reinstalling the HP Support Assistant. When you say that HP Support Assistant fails when you check for updates and messages. Do you mean, that the check for updates and message is not responding or does it say that there are no updates available? If it says that there no updates available, then the PC already has the latest updates installed and you have nothing to worry.

Awaiting your response.

As I said, it looks like it's failing to run properly.

I get a little green check mark next to :Connecting to HP servers", then a small grey "x" on each of the next steps.

Thanks for the reply @ruzicka, this information was helpful.

If HP Support Assistant is not able to communicate with the server, request you restart the PC and try later.

Uninstall HP Support Assistant

Restart the PC

Press Win + R to get the run dialog box, type %temp% and click ok,

This would open the temporary files folder.

Delete all the temp files ( you might not be able to delete all of them, ignore the files that you are unable to delete)

Restart the PC again.

Install HP Support Assistant

Restart the PC and check for updates.

Also, refer http://hp.care/2eMbgPk for other troubleshooting steps for the HP Support Assistant.

Hope this helped.

Besides the HP Support Assistant itself, are there any other HP programs I should be deleting along with it?  Such as HP Support Solutions Framework or HP Update?

HP Recommended

Thanks for the quick reply, it is not required for you to delete any other HP programs. Also, as I had earlier suggested you could also download any driver from www.hp.com/drivers directly.

Let me know if you need any other assistance.

Okay...again tried to uninstall and then reinstall, as per your instructions.

No change.  Checking for updates still seems to fail.

Thanks for the quick reply, recommend you to try again and do not use any other programs while is it analyzing.

If it still fails, we would need to reset the operating system and try. (Please backup your data on an external memory device before you try to reset or reinstallation of the operating system)

If the reset does not resolve the concern a reinstallation of the operating system would be required.

Let me know if this helped, please provide the product number of the computer for further assistance.
